We stand in the gap for First Responder marriages

There is no training ground…

While First Responders receive hours and hours of Academy education followed by on-the-job training, there’s nothing that can prepare your marriage for what’s to come. Unfortunately, many reports show the divorce rate for First Responders is over 75%.

Founded by Gracie – a Police Widow, now Fire Wife – she sees and understands the pressures that First Responder marriages experience. Using her pain for purpose, The Shelter Foundation is determined to support First Responder couples by providing scholarships to marriage counseling and marriage retreats.

What We Do

Helping First Responders Across the Country

Based in Colorado, we steward your generous donations and support to help provide marriage counseling, marriage retreat scholarships and more to couples with the goal of strengthening First Responder families. To date, we have given scholarships to couples from several different states from California to New York. With your help, we can help extend this support across the nation.

Join Our Community

As a First Responder wife, loneliness can be a common feeling as you do so much alone – from holidays, birthdays, school events and parenting. Yet, you are not alone. There is a strong group of women who walk this journey with you and we’d love for you to make connections and be inspired to thrive versus just survive.

We are passionate about creating a place of community that proclaims “Christ Alone” for those who stand beside and behind their First Responder.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

- Psalm 91:1

History of the Foundation

Shortly after the death of Douglas County Deputy Zack Parrish, Gracie Parrish Miller took a leap of faith and decided to help fill the need for authentic, godly fellowship amongst first responder families. In the years since its formation, The Shelter Foundation has stood beside numerous families, spouses and widows of first responders by providing godly resources, studies and community to First Responder families.
