What’s Going on with The Shelter Foundation This Summer?

See what we’re up to and how you help local first responder families…

It has been a busy and exciting couple of months since we relaunched The Shelter Foundation and debuted our new website on March 1. Thank you for your continued and faithful support both financially and prayerfully. The Shelter Foundation (TSF) exists to stand in the gap for First Responder marriages and seeks to offer financial support so that couples can go to counseling and attend marriage retreats without the financial burden as well as to support numerous community events, outreach programs and other activities that we feel can best make a positive and substantial impact in our community.

Within three months of launching, here’s some of where we’ve been able to steward the resources you’ve helped entrust us with:

Events:

  • We are sponsoring three Buckaroo Days at Eagles Nest Ranch in Elizabeth. These separate fun-filled days include games, hayrides, horse fun, crafts, snacks and a devotional are offered complimentary to families of First Responders thanks to our sponsorship.

  • Partnership with Revital Colorado. We have recently sponsored a couples night out at TopGolf in Centennial and a family day at SkyZone in Parker. So often we get stuck in ruts within our marriages that can feel monotonous and we are aiming to help to create fun opportunities for couples to have fun and play together! During these two events, several new police and firefighter families got together and shared conversation and fun in an effort to continue to build community and healthy first responder families and marriages.

  • Zack Parrish will be posthumously honored by the OneGoat Foundation as part of their annual Flip Flop Gala and FROYA (First Responder of the Year) event at Inverness Golf Club. OneGoat is a recognized 501c3 non-profit organization that believes that first responders are our nation’s Greatest Of All Time and helps to provide first responders with critical gap funding when they need it most. We’re looking forward to this event and more to come with OneGoat.

  • We have several more outings planned in the community and look forward to announcing them and sharing them with you soon! We are also grateful for continued support from our community including the Mission Hills Church Sports Camp (below) which will make a donation to The Shelter Foundation with funds raised during the week of June 6.

Marriage Counseling and Retreats

  • Already this summer, we’ve had several first responder couples reach out about marriage counseling looking to strengthen, repair and/or deepen their marriages. We are honored and privileged to be able to provide the funds necessary for these couples to pursue godly wisdom and counseling in the pursuit of a stronger and healthier marriage and family life.

  • We’ve also had several couples apply for marriage retreat scholarships and are thrilled to be able to provide funding and expenses for couples to attend FamilyLife’s Weekend to Remember getaway this fall. We know that first responder marriages need consistent commitment, effort and adventure and FamilyLife’s goal is to help provide couples with a weekend getaway to further understand God’s blueprint for marriage.

We are hoping to provide numerous other marriage retreat scholarships and counseling funding through your generous donations and earmark a generous percentage of all incoming donations for just this specific cause as we truly believe it has long-term (and eternal!) impact on the first responder marriages and couples in our community.

There are multiple ways that you can support The Shelter Foundation:

  1. Pray. Pray for wisdom for our board of directors, outreach programs and the first responders that we can reach.

  2. Make a one-time, tax deductible donation that we will use to provide tangible hope for first responder families, wives and widows and change their futures forever.

  3. Set up a recurring, scheduled financial contribution to power our mission and spread hope to first responders and their families across Colorado and beyond.

  4. Choose The Shelter Foundation on Amazon Smile at smile.amazon.com.

  5. Spread the word. Follow us on social media and engage with and share our posts and content to your friends.

We are passionate about spreading hope so that first responders and their families know that they are not alone. And we can’t do it alone. Thank you so much for your support of what we do. Simply put, we couldn’t do it without your generosity.
