The Shelter Foundation Looks to 2023: A Message from Gracie Parrish Miller

The Shelter Foundation is ready to enter 2023 in its fifth year of standing beside families, spouses and widows of first responders and we are grateful and humbled by all the support we have received from our community. At The Shelter Foundation, it is our goal for First Responder families to know that they aren’t in this fight alone. The need for that community is as evident now more than ever. So often, a First Responder is over-worked and under-paid, struggling with what they experience on the job…and the marriage often takes the brunt of it. A recent study suggests that the divorce rate is over 75% for a First Responder couple.

2022 has been an exciting year of change, growth and knowledge for us and none of it would be possible without our generous donors continued and steadfast support. Here are a few highlights and goals going forward:

  • In March, we launched a new website at theshelterfoundation.org complete with a new logo and overall appearance, but the same (and renewed) conviction to stand beside first responder families.

  • We have sponsored several events aiming to bring tangible hope and healing including three Buckaroo Days at Eagles Nest Ranch, a couples night out at TopGolf, a family day at SkyZone and a Fall Festival at Mane Mission Ranch. During these events, first responder families got together, shared conversations and enjoyed fun activities in an effort to continue to build community and healthy first responder families and marriages.

  • We’ve provided scholarships for couples to attend FamilyLife’s upcoming Weekend to Remember getaways and continually receive requests from couples hoping to attend future retreats.

  • We’ve provided funding for first responder couples to receive much needed professional, Christian counseling to heal, strengthen and grow their marriages.

  • We’ve strived to be the hands and feet of Jesus to widows locally in Colorado and across the country and are looking to expand our outreach and support going forward.

  • We’ve expanded partnerships with like-minded organizations such as Revital Colorado and OneGoat Foundation and others with future events planned for 2023 and beyond.

We are honored and privileged to be able to stand in the gap for these couples, families and widows to pursue godly wisdom, counseling and community and we are humbly asking for your continued support to help spread our mission to our heroes and their families. There are multiple ways that you can support our mission:

  1. Pray. Pray for wisdom for our board of directors, outreach programs and first responders we reach.

  2. Make a one-time tax-deductible donation or set up a recurring, scheduled financial contribution on our website to power our mission and spread hope to first responders and their families across Colorado and beyond.

  3. Choose The Shelter Foundation on Amazon Smile at smile.amazon.com.

  4. Spread the word. Follow and engage with us on social media and share the word to your friends and family.

We want you to know that the integrity of this foundation is strong. Your tax-deductible financial gifts are thoughtfully and prayerfully stewarded by The Shelter Foundation to provide tangible hope for first responder families, wives and widows and help change their futures forever. Thank you so much for your support of what we do. Simply put, we couldn’t do it without your generosity

Gratefully,

Gracie Parrish Miller
