Colorado hikes for couples and families

9 Quick Getaways and Scenic Views across the Denver Area and Beyond

Spring is the season of growth and development, not only for the wilderness that surrounds us but for ourselves as well. Finding ways to be closer to nature and slow down is just better in Colorado than in many other parts of the country. And while we do have several months of cold, by March we are seeing a sprinkling of warmer spring days. Be it an easy beginner trail or a more intermediate or advanced hike, there are countless ways to enjoy the spring and summer in Colorado with your partner. Walking and hiking without the interruption of the outside world is one of the healthiest ways to reconnect and grow with your spouse.

From Colorado Springs to Boulder, Douglas to Jefferson Counties and in between here are some of our favorite hikes near Denver:

1. Waterton Canyon (Littleton) - At just over 12 miles, Waterton Canyon Trail is generally considered an easy route and takes an average of 4 hours to complete. With little to no shade, this trail can get warm so be sure to prepare accordingly. This is a very popular area for fishing, hiking, wildlife spotting and horseback riding. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed on this trail in order to protect the Big Horn Sheep that call this area home. 2. Garden of the Gods (Colorado Springs) - Shown in the photo at top and located just outside of Colorado Springs, this natural landmark is an awe-inspiring showcase of Colorado's striking red rock formations and God’s handiwork. The park offers a scenic drive with roads that wind through the area, providing visitors with easy access to a variety of short hiking trails that range from easy to moderately difficult. If you're looking for a more extended adventure, the full loop trail is approximately 4 miles in length, but the terrain is relatively easy to navigate, and parking lots are always nearby, making it accessible for all skill levels. With its incredible vistas, stunning red rock formations, and diverse flora and fauna, this is must-see destination for any nature lover whether you're seeking a peaceful escape or an adventure in the great outdoors.
